    The Changes

The EYFS statutory framework sets the minimum standards for care and education in early years and childcare settings for children from birth to the end of reception. Its implementation is closely monitored by the DfE to ensure that:

    - Children’s safety and well-being is effectively supported,- Children receive care that meets their individual needs,
    - Children are able to access learning opportunities that help them to navigate life with success,
    - The EYFS remains fit for purpose.

In summer 2024, the DfE launched a consultation which sought the sector’s views on proposals to strengthen the safeguarding requirements in the EYFS. The consultation has now concluded, and the document the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage safeguarding reforms: Government consultation response’ summarises the sector’s feedback and provides advanced notice of the new legal requirements set to take effect from 1st September 2025.

This audit has been designed to:

    - Walk you through the new legal requirements,
    - Help you to assess what is currently in place and where policy and practice could or should be developed,
    - Form a plan to move practice forward.
